(August 29, 1939 –  December 19, 2023)

Patricia K. “Pat” Gidcomb, 84, of Shelbyville, IL, passed away at 8:20 p.m. Tuesday, December 19, 2023 in HSHS Good Shepherd Hospital, Shelbyville, IL.

A memorial service is being planned for a future date with burial in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville, IL.  Memorials may be given to Saving Orphaned Animals and mailed to Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, 415 N. Broadway, Shelbyville, IL 62565.  Arrangements are by Howe and Yockey Funeral Home.

Pat was born on August 29, 1939 in Shelbyville, IL, the daughter of Michael “Mike” and Mary Evelyn (Maloon) Young.  She graduated from Carrollton High School in the Class of 1957.  Pat married William Lawrence “Bill” Gidcomb on November 16, 1979.  Pat loved her family more than anything in the world, except for QVC, her Boston Terrier “Boo”, Pug “Rosie” and Miniature Poodles “Dexter” and “Lil’ Girl”. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Shelbyville and enjoyed taking classes to learn different ceramic and pottery building techniques.   Pat was a gifted “silent” artist, poet and home decorator, as she rarely shared her talents outside of her own home.  Pat was well known for her quick wit and the ability to make all she encountered laugh.

She is survived by her husband, Bill Gidcomb of  Shelbyville, IL; seven children, Chris Linn of Charleston, IL, Luanne Crafton Vance of Shelbyville, IL, formerly of Jacksonville, FL, Rebecca Sue Crafton Keller (Nolen) of Shelbyville, IL, Jason Crafton (Allison) of Augusta, GA, Pat Gidcomb Myers (Gene) of Indianapolis, IN, Scott Gidcomb (Barbara) of Woodinville, WA and Jennifer Gidcomb Gardner (Lee) of Mattoon, IL; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Young of Carrollton, IL; eleven grandchildren, Courtney Vance Hense, Cody Vance, Sam Myers, Ben Myers, Caleb Linn, Alejandro Dill, Silvey Gardner, Ginger Gardner, Annabel Crafton, Margo Crafton, and Ian Gidcomb; six great grandchildren, Declan, Ella, Harlan, Apollo, Olivia and Natalie; and nephews, Mike, Randy and Nick Young.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mike and Mary Young; brother, Ted Young; and nephew, Todd Young.

Pat had a significant stroke a year ago requiring her to have 24 hour care.  The family struggled with the decision of placement, ultimately they decided on Shelbyville Manor.  The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff for taking such wonderful care of, what she was affectionately known as, “Pretty Pat.”
